One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled.
It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear.
It was the age of gargoyles.
Stone by day, warriors by night, we were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years.
Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken, and we live again!
We are defenders of the night!
We are GARGOYLES!
Those opening words would start off nearly every episode of the Disney cartoon “Gargoyles” which ran in the mid 1990’s. A darker turn for Disney Television animation, this cartoon still ranks today as one of the best series to date in the last 25 years of animation in my opinion. Alongside “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Beast Wars,” “Gargoyles” stands the test of time.
That all said, this figure from the Kenner line is that of Demona, voiced by Marina Sirtis of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” fame. A character deeply devoted to the preservation of her clan, she stopped at nothing to protect the sanctity of her fellow gargoyles, eventually becoming evil in the process. As limited as the articulation may have been with these figures, they still looked great.
Have a great Saturday everyone, and Rock On!!
